It Doesn’t Take a New Year to Create a New You

By December 31, 2017No Comments

As a new year approaches, out come the lists of resolutions: be happy, make more money, feel liberated… We have a habit of bombarding ourselves with the overwhelming promise of a brand new life at the start of a new year. I am a big believer in goals, daily practice, and making firm decisions about what you want in life, but consider setting this as your only resolution for 2018:

Show up. Be present. Pay attention. Accept where you are and what you have, and tune into the daily calling in your life to be exactly who you are.

Understand that everything that has happened in all of the past years, has led you to this present moment. And this present moment is where you are meant to be. Change does not happen on January 1st of each year, but every single moment of your day throughout your life. Some strive to be a different person in a new year. In reality, try focusing on being present and making changes to things in your life daily, as you become aware of them.

As 2018 approaches, instead of writing down an elaborate list, I invite you to write a thank you note instead. Thank the past year for teaching you; thank yourself for growing; and instead of giving yourself a year’s worth of homework, clear your slate. Take time to reflect, appreciate, and cultivate awareness so that you can implement daily resolution into your life.

If you develop this approach to resolutions, you will find that your life will play out as it is meant to, and you will end up doing everything you are supposed to in the right timing. If you devote too much of your thinking to all of the overwhelming thoughts of what you need to accomplish, you will miss the opportunity that is right in front of you.
